Alabama Rot – Cornish dog possibly affected

Alabama Rot – or CRGV – is a deadly disease of unknown cause.  Most cases are seen between November and May.  The numbers of animals affected are still very very low.  Remember 1000’s of dogs are walked in wet and muddy conditions daily but the numbers of dogs affected by this disease are very small.  Without understanding the cause of Alabama Rot then it is also difficult to advise on prevention.   Cases have been seen in many counties of the UK but as yet there have been no confirmed cases in Cornwall.  But currently a dog in West Cornwall is under treatment for suspected Alabama Rot.
